Fresh air fresh perspective

Bonjour, in this video I want to share one simple tip on how to start your day full of energy.

Today I am with a group of friends in this amazing place in the Hunter Valley. The Hunter Valley is a famous wine producing region of NSW and is about two hours north of Sydney. I am fortunate enough to be here in this beautiful place with my close friends and their children. This morning I’ve been having a great discussion with my wonderful friend, Megan McGrath who is leader of a company called ‘Chasing Sunrise.’ She helps people with living healthy, happy, and fulfilling lives. On top of this, she is also a wonderful Mum, wife, and a fantastic friend. Despite leading a very busy professional life, she always has time for other people.

This morning I am discussing with Megan the issues some of her clients are facing in the morning. For many people, mornings are a rush between getting ready, organizing children, preparing for the day and checking emails. Mornings can be very stressful.

Cyril: What would you advise for a good start to the day?

Megan: My top tip would be to get up without too much thought and move your body in a way that feels good for you. For me, it’s getting out into the fresh air. It can be a walk with a friend, with my husband or on my own literally chasing the sunrise.

It’s getting up and moving in the fresh air, moving your body in a way that feels good for you.

I find that the fresh air always provides me with a fresh perspective. It’s an amazing start to the day and a great way to bring your energy for the rest of the day.

Cyril: Very interesting. I’m doing a course at the moment on health and energy. One of the first pieces of advice the trainer Ben gives is exactly this: start your day with a walk before breakfast.

I love your advice on fresh air, fresh perspective. Even walking on your own in the morning enables you to be mindful and think about your day and your life. I do the same every day and I finish my morning routine with simply saying to myself, today is going to be a great day.

Megan: I think so many of us wait until it feels right to get up and get moving outside. Unfortunately, when your alarm clock goes off early in the morning it’s not always what you want to do. Even for you and I who have established this daily morning routine, we don’t always jump out of bed early in the morning and feel excited straight away about going for a run or moving our bodies in the fresh air.

One simple piece of advice: make a commitment to put your shoes on and walk out the door. Just this. Once you are out of the door it is very unlikely you will turn around and go back to bed.

Cyril: James Clear in his book ‘Atomic Habits’ suggested the same thing: commit to the first two minutes. So, in the morning commit to putting your shoes on and walking out the door.

Megan a big thank you for your suggestions. Every morning, fresh air, fresh perspective, even if it’s for 20 minutes or even 10 minutes. A great way to start your day.

This is this week’s Work Smarter: Live better tip. I hope you have a wonderful day. Megan and I are going to continue enjoying this magical place. You take care.

Megan: Have a wonderful day.

A bientôt

Cyril
