Make it personal
Many leaders get in contact with me to help them with their workload. They are bombarded with emails, swamped with ‘to do’ lists, inundated with meetings, priorities, dealing with crises etc.
We are able to help them with all of the above, but what people often don’t realize is how big the impact of changing their work habits can have on their life.
Bonjour, in this video, I want to share one simple weekly practice that can make a big difference to your personal life.
When I work with a team of leaders, I challenge them around many of their work habits. At the end of the journey, I ask them a simple question: do you plan your personal life with the same amount of detail and attention as you plan your business life? The answer for most people is no.
Most people agree that success in their personal life is more important than success in their professional life. So why do we give less attention and planning to our personal life?
Success for me is not linked to the revenue I generate, the number of clients I have or the overall success of my business. I link success to the quality of my relationship with my loved ones, my family and friends, and to the amount of quality time I spend with them.
My suggestion: plan your personal life with as much attention and detail as you plan your business life.
How do you do this?

Every week I plan my following week by asking a very simple question: what do I need to do next week to progress in my business AND personal priorities? Then I book specific meetings with myself in my diary.
Many years ago, I was working with Stuart, the General Manager of a big bank in Australia. At the end of the journey, he wrote to me saying: “I remember the first time I put an appointment in my diary to drop my daughter off at school. I felt rather strange, as though, I wasn’t making most use of my time. However, I soon realized it’s quite the opposite. I’m now managing my time to make sure I do the things that really matter.”
Your personal time, the time with your loved ones, the time for your personal priorities are the things that really matter.
When I train a team, most people think at the start of the journey it’s about managing their files, emails, meetings, and business priorities. Although this is true, the main focus is to transform the way people live by changing their work habits.
